The Dr. of Smiles Program
The Drs. of Smiles — Grotto volunteers — are key to the operation of our dental program. They are the Grotto representatives in the community who work with families, dentists, and the Humanitarian Foundation to ensure that special kids get special smiles.
At the first Dr. Smiles seminar in 2011, Edward Sterling, DDS (Achbar Grotto) described what a Doctor of Smiles does and who he is. A Doctor of Smiles is a:
- Mediator, Ambassador, Negotiator (MAN)
- Originator, Facilitator (OF)
- Grantor of Help, Recruiter, Advocate, Conduit, Enabler (GRACE)
Together, that spells out MAN OF GRACE — and that's exactly what our volunteers strive to be. Through this program, Selama Grotto and Grottoes International help children with disabilities receive the dental care they need, bringing smiles to families across our community.
