About the Memorial

The Seattle Fishermen's Memorial was dedicated in 1988 at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle. It stands as a magnificent bronze and stone aggregate monument, built through years of effort and generous contributions from Seattle's commercial fishing community.

The sculpture and the bronze name plaques at its base honor more than 675 local commercial fishermen and women who have lost their lives at sea. For many fishing families, those lost at sea simply vanish, leaving loved ones without a word or a trace. This monument provides their memory a permanent residence — a place for family and friends to visit, lay flowers, reflect, and find healing.

The Memorial Wall bears the names of those who have been lost, and families may apply to have a tile installed in honor of their loved ones. Each year, new tiles are dedicated during the annual Memorial and Tile Dedication ceremony.

The Seattle Fishermen's Memorial is a charitable organization with a broad mission to serve the commercial fishing community. Our work includes:

• Scholarships: Financial support for surviving family members of fishermen lost at sea, and for those in the fishing industry seeking to improve their maritime skills and safety credentials.
• Counseling: Emotional support for families who have sustained an incredible loss.
• Safety: Promoting safety in the fishing fleets through rebates and awareness programs.
• Community Events: Annual gatherings that bring the fishing community together to remember, celebrate, and support one another.
