Musical Background
Rachel's father, Professor David E. Bourne, was a wonderful pianist and a lifelong inspiration to her. He was best known for his 48 years as the pianist at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he could play just about any request that came his way. This sparked Rachel's interest in studying a variety of musical styles, which she now enjoys passing on to her students.
In her twenties, Rachel began teaching and performing, and she now calls Sausalito home. She has been teaching private piano lessons since 1998, building a deep music library that spans many decades and a wide variety of styles.
Adult Lessons
Rachel loves working with adults of all ages. It is absolutely never too late to start or return to piano. Her ever-growing music library spans many decades and a wide variety of musical styles, making it easy to find music that's inspiring and fun to learn.
Whether you've always wanted to learn to read music, are picking up where you left off years ago, or simply want a new creative outlet, Rachel meets you where you are and builds a path forward that feels rewarding from the very first lesson.
Recitals
Rachel plans one regular recital every year for students who would like to experience performing. When she has a group interested in jazz and blues improvisation, she plans a second, smaller Jam Night Recital.
These recitals are a wonderful opportunity for students to share what they've been working on in a supportive, encouraging setting. Past recitals have been held at the Sausalito Seahorse.
