From Bakeries to Distilleries
During Prohibition, our great-grandparents saw an opportunity. Their successful bakeries already relied on the same core ingredients — grain, sugar, and yeast — so the leap to distilling was a natural one. What started as a daring family venture became a legacy passed down through generations.
The Outriders played a key role in that era, scouting safe delivery routes on their motorcycles and returning to the Clubhouse where new test batches were shared among friends. Their spirit of camaraderie and adventure lives on in everything we do at Wohlfert Craft Distilling.
Founded by John Wohlfert, the distillery was revived in 2020 — exactly a century after Prohibition first inspired the family's spirited endeavors. We craft every batch by hand, using locally sourced grains and pure water drawn from our timberland aquifer.
We named our spirits after the coded catchphrases and speakeasy passwords of simple motorcycle parts that kept the riders safe during Prohibition. They are used as an inside invitation to our customers today. Every bottle holds to that trusted promise.
