From Welcoming Refugees to Welcoming Neighbors
After unexpectedly losing her federal position welcoming refugees to the United States, Megan Ritter decided to bring the concept of welcome a little closer to home. She created The Whimsical Welcome to serve aromatic spiced batch brew coffee, along with delightful treats, all in the hope of offering a moment of whimsy and warmth.
The Whimsical Welcome mobile cafe launched during the holiday season of 2025, quickly becoming a beloved addition to the Bowie, Maryland community. Megan posts a schedule of times and locations each week so neighbors always know where to find the trailer.
At its heart, The Whimsical Welcome is about more than coffee. It's about creating a space — even a small, mobile one — where people feel seen, welcomed, and invited to pause for a moment of joy. Every cup is brewed with that spirit in mind.
