What We Do
The Puppet Free Library is a lending library of puppets — yes, you can actually borrow them. Located in the basement of Emmanuel Church in Boston, we maintain a growing collection of puppets of all kinds: giant puppets, backpack puppets, dragons, birds, animals, banners, and much more.
We're part of The Puppeteers' Cooperative, a group dedicated to the idea that puppets belong in the community. We build puppets, teach others how to build them, organize parades and pageants, and make puppetry accessible to everyone. Whether you want to borrow a two-person fish, learn to construct a pole dragon, or stage a neighborhood procession, we're here to help.
Our collection includes simple puppets like fatheads and shimmy dancers, elaborate backpack puppets, giant figures like Poseidon and Mr. America, hoop-and-cloth puppets, wire birds, dragons of every description, and costumes and accessories. We also have scripts, construction guides, and years of experience putting puppets on the street.
