A Fresno Tradition

Santa Fe Basque Restaurant and Bar is a small, family-owned and operated business rooted in the traditions of the Basque Country. Originally located in the Santa Fe Hotel in Downtown Fresno — a boarding house built in 1927 for newly arrived Basque immigrants — the restaurant has been serving the community for decades.

Today, we're located on Maroa Ave. and Shields, between the Tower District and Fig Garden. We work hard to provide our customers with traditional and contemporary Basque-American food, to perpetuate the Basque culture, and to offer an enjoyable home-away-from-home atmosphere.

Our family-style meals include soup of the day, salad, side dishes, your choice of entrée, and dessert — a complete dining experience that keeps folks coming back.

What's Happening

Chicken Liver Dinner: Join us every second Thursday of the month for our Chicken Liver Dinner, a popular tradition of many Basque restaurants for over 60 years. The dinner includes soup of the day, salad, potato salad with shrimp, vegetable of the day, chicken livers with gravy, fried chicken, wine, and dessert. Reservations required.

Basque Breakfast: Enjoy eggs, bacon, Basque-style bacon, sausage, chorizo, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, pancakes, cheese, and wine. Reservations required — call ahead for the next date.

We are a small, family-owned and operated business. Making reservations helps us prepare and staff accordingly so we can provide you with the best experience possible.

What Our Guests Say

My first visit to this Basque restaurant so I enjoyed the family style meal with garlic chicken as my main course. The side dishes were excellent, the chicken was moist inside and crispy on the outside. Wonderful meal. Excellent service from Lorenzo. If you enjoy Basque style dining you must visit.

This is a spot that consistently delivers. The daily specials are often the best thing offered and the lamb is a good fallback. The food is tasty and very filling, many entrees can be split when considering the soup and salad that comes with the meal. I'll definitely be back!

The value is great especially if you get the $18.95 menu. Everything from the soup and the side dishes to the main menu, all of them are exquisitely prepared. The course-menu style dining experience was a great experience. Atmosphere is very homey. Overall, 5.5 out of 5 stars.
